Special working environments place special demands on mobile machines. Incorrect operation in areas where space is limited can cause serious damage to material, machine and people. To prevent this, a limited working area is required in which the machine can work safely and reliably. WIKA Mobile Control has developed an innovative HMI operating concept for limiting the working area of telescopic cranes, where crane operators can easily create virtual walls and set geometric limits. Through the operating console, machine operators are warned at an early stage when limit values are approached, which enables them to operate safely and reliably within the limited working area.
The working area limitation is ensured by a variety of functions which are easily controlled using the user-friendly vSCALE D3 console. The following functions are optionally available to the user:
- Limiting the luffing angle for monitoring the upper/lower luffing angle
- Limiting the height to limit the maximum boom tip height
- Limiting the working radius to limit the minimum/maximum boom radius
- Limiting the slewing angle to limit the left/right slewing angle
- Limitation by “virtual walls” with definition of up to four configurable virtual walls
- Limitation by straight, parallel walls in forwards/backwards direction, which are used, for example, as "rail walls" when working on rails
The respective geometric limit values can be configured specifically to the customer and project. Exceeding a configured limit value results in the display of a warning symbol, warning by acoustic alarm and, if the load moment indication (LMI) is correctly wired, the corresponding machine movement is cut-off by the LMI. The warning symbols can be set in different colors and/or flashing as soon as a programmed geometry limit value is exceeded. Common to all limit functions is the operation, parameter setting and display through the vSCALE D3 console.
The console features a high-resolution 7" TFT color display and is designed for vertical surface or recessed mounting. It has a built-in acoustic alarm and three video interfaces for the insertion of video signals. The HMI is equipped with overvoltage protection up to max. 48 VDC and reverse polarity protection up to -48V DC. With an IP67 protection rating and an operating temperature range of -40°C to +75°C, it is ideally suited for use in harsh environmental conditions.
