Hirschmann Wins "100 Places for Industry 4.0" Competition

Baden-Württemberg, an economically strong and innovative region, is at the vanguard of Germany’s industry. The state-wide competition held by the “Alliance for Industry 4.0 in Baden-Württemberg” spotlights innovative ideas that companies have developed for networking production and value creation processes. Hirschmann MCS was singled out for its contribution to the “Karis Pro” research project. The jury praised its answer to the major challenge of creating a supply system that is able to flexibly and autonomously respond to fluctuating demand.

The name Karis Pro is derived from the German for "small-scale autonomous redundant intralogistics system for production". This collaborative project was launched in 2013 with the goal of designing a fully integrated, robust, and highly flexible logistics and material flow system by 2016.

"The competition has left no doubt that Industry 4.0 solutions have progressed beyond abstract visions and entered the realm of reality," says Dr. Dietrich Birk, who heads the Baden-Württemberg chapter of the VDMA engineering association.
